Designing Devil Tree Films’ logo with a devil may care attitude

Devil Tree Films’ work bridges comedy and drama and they wanted a logo that reflected that tone. The initial concept came together quickly and during the revision process we collaborated to create a mark we love.

“When Rocketkoi made our company logo, we found their creative process to be inclusive, fun, and the results well exceeded our expectations. We were blown away by how they were able to translate our mission statement into a piece of pop art that totally nailed the tone of our brand.”

The Devil was in the details

While the Devil was in our initial round of concepts, we revised them through five more rounds of revision. We needed to find the right balance between professional and care-free and make sure that Devil didn’t accidentally fall into the usual bad guy with a goatee look.

The evolution of the Devil Tree Films devil

The revision process would not have been successful without a clear company tone and mission from the Devil Tree Films’ team and a successful discovery process guided by us at Rocketkoi. Those two elements helped us continue to move forward and trust each others’ feedback and processes.

The Devil made us do it

The illustration style of the Devil directed us towards supporting typography and other elements. We customized Underware’s Duos Sharp Pro to have a similar weight as the Devil. Putting an illustrator’s eye to the forms of the font also allowed us to slightly alter its forms so that the words “Devil Tree Films” could work stacked or in a line. Logos need to work in multiple ways and at multiple sizes for brand consistency.

Creating a tactile way to apply a logo brings a human touch to the brand.

A devilishly good palette

Our palette is a classic one, but classics work for a reason. Much like our work for Running Woman Productions, our shade of red went through many different hues and saturation levels to be unique for the brand.

In our branding projects, we create guidelines that can serve to keep implementation consistent across teams without overwhelming the client. These short documents also serve as examples of what can be done with the elements we design.

Brand guides should be more then a set of rules. They should show how the brand can be used.
A small set of colors guarantees consistent use across your brand.

We know that brand matters, especially in film. Production companies often only have a few seconds to show their logo and do it in a memorable way. This can add a lot of pressure to the process, but it’s always important to have fun. Devil Tree Films always kept that in mind and it shows in a great, ownable end product.
